War Dead Memorial Unveiling

Former Taoiseach, Enda Kenny T..D., was present in Straide on June 25th last to unveil the community’s War Dead. A large number of people were present to witness the historic event take place, with many having travelled long distances. Well done to the organising committee who put a huge amount of work into organising the day. Refreshments were provided afterwards in the Davitt Hall where there was also an excellent display of World I and World II artefacts

End of School Year 2017

The end of school year the school year was formally marked on June 23rd last with an end of year Mass and, also, the raising of the school’s fifth Green School Flag and first Active School flag. A fond farewell was also said to sixth class: Danielle, Claire, Anna, Kila, Erin, Caelia, Sheena and Leona. We wish them the very best oof luck in their new second level school in August.

May Procession 2017

After an absence of 29 years, Straide parish revived its very old tradition of having a May Procession. It took place after the 11.00am Mass on May 28th 2017. A very large crowd were present. Some remembered the last such procession held in 1988. The sun shone as the statue of Our Lady was carried from the Church to the Abbey and back.
