Harvest Thanksgiving 2017

Posted by:

Harvest Thanksgiving Weekend – Due to the success of last year’s event, the weekend Masses on September 9th and 10th will, again, this year have a Harvest Thanksgiving theme. Harvest Thanksgiving is a very old tradition – especially within farming communities. It is appropriate that all peoples (connected to farming or otherwise) give thanks to God for the fruits of the earth and to ask His continued blessing on the land and all it yields. Parishioners are very welcome, and are encouraged, to donate produce of the earth for this Ceremony of Thanksgiving and Blessing. The following are examples of what would be suitable and might be considered for donation: vegetables, fruit, jam, barley, oats, potatoes, eggs, milk, cheese, butter, bread, honey, turf, hay, straw, wool etc., etc. In addition, home garden flowers to decorate the church would be much appreciated. All donated produce will be for sale after Mass on the Sunday morning. All proceeds will go towards the Church maintenance fund. The weekend promises to be a very family oriented occasion so make sure to bring everyone along.
