After an absence of 29 years, Straide parish revived its very old tradition of having a May Procession. It took place after the 11.00am Mass on May 28th 2017. A very large crowd were present. Some remembered the last such procession held in 1988. The sun shone as the statue of Our Lady was carried from the Church to the Abbey and back. The procession was led by the Foxford Brass and Reed Band under the skilful direction of its conductor Laurie Barrett. Previous members of this band had played at every Straide May Procession held in the past. Sincere thanks to all who participated (especially the Communion & Confirmation children, the rose petal bearers and, of course, the crown carrier). A great debt of gratitude is due to the parishioners who made everything that was needed for the procession and did it so very well. Thanks, also, to those who led the procession, those who carried the statue and those who recited the rosary. It all added to a wonderful and very memorable occasion.
