This autumn, following from the success of a similar event held in 2016, Straide Parish is holding another Harvest Festival. It will run from September 3rd to 9th with events each day. The proceeds of the week’s events will go to the Church Conservation Fund.

On Thursday, 6th Andy Moran will give a talk on “The Importance of Exercise for Mental and Physical Health”. Later, Paraic Horkan will be present at 9.00 pm to offer gardening advice on autumn planting and garden care.
On Saturday 8th (at 9.00 pm) there will be a much-anticipated return of the Harvest Barn Dance with music by Francis McHale, full bar and food served. Admission is €20. The lucky tickets in the Straide Church Fundraising Campaign will be drawn on the night. On offer in that draw is a top prize of a car and a second prize of a pedigree heifer.
On Sunday, 9th (at 11.00 am) there will be the annual Harvest Thanksgiving Mass, followed by an Auction of Harvest Produce and the Blessing of Pets. Later that afternoon (3.00 pm – 5.00 pm), DJ Jim will entertain the kiddies with a Kiddies Disco. Admission to this event is free.
All events (with the exception of the Harvest Thanksgiving Mass) will be held in the marquee on the grounds of Straide Church.
And to get everyone fit for the Harvest Festival, a 5K Parish Walk (Operation Conservation) will take place the previous month on Sunday, August 5th at 3.30 pm. Registration at 3.00 pm at the Church. €5 individual or €10 per family. Refreshments afterwards.
