The Community Futures Programme assists communities to prepare a 5 year Community Futures Community Action Plan – a process that usually takes 6 months approx to complete. The plan is prepared following a detailed consultation process that involves all sectors and residents in the community, working together to plan for their future.
A local steering committee, made up of a broad range of organisations in the locality, is set up in the community and a Community Support Volunteer is assigned to each community. The Support Volunteer assists the steering group is gathering and compiling information and facts.
Information is gathered threefold. The Community Support Volunteer conducts a detailed interview with the different organisations and sectors that make up the community to get their views and to gather local facts. A household survey is distributed to all households to give every individual an opportunity to participate. A Community Day for everyone in the community is organised to display the information gathered and to facilitate the prioritising of strategies and actions.
A Community Profile and Community Futures Actions Plan are then completed and ready for launch at a later date.
