Service of Remembrance 2016
A Service of Remembrance of the Dead was held on Tuesday, November 15th last. During that Service, all of the dead of the parish were remembered but, especially, those who passed away during the past year. May they now all rest in Peace. Many thanks to our readers, our alter servers, our candle lighters and, of course, our choir who were superb on the night.
Remembrance Sunday 2016
On Remembrance Sunday, Fr Martin Convey and Canon Andrea Wills officiated at a very solemn and reflective ceremony of Blessing and Commemoration at the recently erected Straide War Memorial. Despite the inclement weather, a sizeable crowd was in attendance. The Occasion proved to be a moving and poignant one for all those assembled. A special word of thanks to the Foxford Brass and Reed Band and to the Castlebar Concert and Marching band whose haunting performance of the Last Post helped focus the congregation’s thoughts on the fallen of all wars and the ultimate price they paid. The ceremony ended with a special blessing and commitment to peace. Thanks also to all those at the Michael Davitt Memorial Hall for providing refreshments after the ceremony. The Memorial is adjoining the Michael Davitt Museum grounds
