Centenary of the Laying of the Foundation Stone of Ss. Peter & Paul Church
The Feast of Ss. Peter and Paul on June 29th last was a very big occasion for the parish of Straide as it celebrated the 100th anniversary of the blessing and laying of the foundation stone of the present Church. The theme of the Mass was that of foundation – with 37 stones (representing the 37 townlands of the parish) being brought to the altar and placed around 37 burning candles (representing the faith of past generations of peoples from those townlands). A babeque followed after Mass and all enjoyed Sunday brunch in brilliant sunshine.
